The Perry Community School District is currently going through construction to add more educational rooms for the youngest students.

Superintendent Clark Wicks shares that the school board recently approved the early construction package, which will see three new classrooms created and attached to the west side of the elementary school. He says that the school board is using $211,050 for the project that is coming out of the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy, and clarifies how that differs from the school district’s general budget.

“That is something that all schools have, (and) boards pass it each year. So then we save it for the one cent sales tax that comes our way (from the state). Those are critical funds for the likes of buildings, repairs, maintenance, and that is all that it can be used for.”

Wicks is excited to expand the elementary school as the community continues to grow, and confirms that construction begins at the end of this month.
