Iowans need to make sure that they’re properly registered before using off-road vehicles.
Dallas County Recorder ReNae Arnold explains that any All-Terrain Vehicles, Utility Task Vehicles, Off-Road Motorcycle, and Snowmobiles need to be registered or require a permit to use. She mentions that people need to be at least 18 years old to operate a vehicle on public highways.
Arnold indicates that people registering their vehicles for the first time will need to bring a valid drivers license to the Recorder’s Office and would need to fill out an application. Otherwise, people who are renewing their vehicle registration, can do so without any documentation, and renewals are up at the end of every year on December 31st.
Arnold reveals that if a vehicle is purchased through a private sale, then people need to pay sales tax, but if it’s bought through a dealer, then they will handle everything on their own, and send the paperwork over to the Recorder’s Office. She adds that renewals can be done in person at the Recorder’s Office inside the Administration Building, 800 Court Street Suite 130, in Adel, by mail, over the phone, or online.
