The lone Perry cross country runner still standing will lace up for one final race this season. Junior Lily Myers will represent the Jayettes at the Class 3A State Championship on Friday afternoon at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge, with the girls’ race set to begin at 2 p.m.
This marks the second straight year Myers has earned a spot on the state’s biggest stage. In her first trip to Fort Dodge last fall, she placed 105th overall, gaining valuable experience on the challenging championship course.
This time around, Myers’ focus isn’t on where she finishes among the field — it’s on how fast she can go.
“Get under 20 again and placing doesn’t really matter to me,” Myers said. “I just hope to run a good time.”
Friday’s race will be both a culmination of her hard work and a chance to see just how far she’s come. No matter the result, Myers’ return trip to state is already a fitting finish to a standout season.
