
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Football Team defeated North Scott 27-24 on Friday night in Adel during the first round of the Class 4A Playoffs.
The Tigers were charged by senior Running Back Reed Obstarczyk, who had 27 carries for 205 yards and two touchdowns. He scored both of them in the first quarter, with a 56 yarder on the second play from scrimmage and a six-yard run towards the end of the quarter, with a 31 yard field goal from Lancer senior Kicker Cole Green, to make the score 13-3 at the end of one.
The only score in the second quarter was a 19-yard run from North Scott junior Running Back Jonas Schlichting, as ADM led 13-10 at the half. The Lancers got the ball to begin the second half and capped it off with a 66-yard touchdown pass from junior Quarterback Miller Haedt to junior Ryan Block to give North Scott a 17-13 advantage.
The fourth quarter would be full of action, as the first play from a 77-yard touchdown pass from ADM senior QB Hudson Shull to junior Reid Kluesner to make it 20-17 in favor of the Tigers. However, on the ensuing possession that started from the Lancer 20 yard line, Haedt threw a screen pass to senior Wide Receiver Brady Hubner, who took it 80 yards to the endzone for the 24-20 lead with over seven minutes remaining. On the next possession from the Tigers that began at the 16 yard line, Shull found separation and broke away for a 49-yard touchdown run to put ADM back in from 27-24.
North Scott then drove on the next drive and got inside the 20 yard line, but on a trick play that saw junior Ryder Maher throw a pass, it was intercepted by senior Defensive Back Jackson Pitzen to seal the 27-24 victory for ADM.
The Lancers were led by Haedt, who completed 11 passes for 209 and two touchdowns. For the Tigers, Shull completed 13 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown. North Scott’s season ends at 6-4, while ADM improves to 9-1 and will travel to Cedar Rapids to face the top-seeded Xavier Saints this Friday at 7pm.
