The regular season finale for the Carroll High girls’ swim team could not have gone much better for the Tigers or for freshman Ava Hinote, the only Greene County student swimming for Carroll. At Perry on Oct. 28, Carroll won 55-38 over Algona and 53-41 vs. Perry, and Hinote swam four times, finishing first each time. That was the first time in her young high school career she’s been first in four events in one meet.
Coach Deb Danner told Raccoon Valley Radio, “I’m very proud of these girls. They swam a great meet! The six Carroll swimmers knew they had their work cut out for them as Perry had 11 swimmers and Algona had 14. The girls looked good, relay exchanges were spot on, and turns looked fast.”
Hinote won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:15.81, the 100 freestyle in a season best time of :59.75, and was on a pair of first place freestyle relays, the 200 and 400.
Hinote and her teammates are preparing for the postseason, which starts Saturday, Nov. 8 in Ames for Regional competition.
