The High School State Volleyball Tournament runs today through Thursday at Xtreme Arena in Coralville. Greene County ended its season in the first round of the Class 3A regional tournament, but six of the Rams’ opponents during its 14-17 season are playing this week with State titles on the line.
Those six are spread throughout four of Iowa’s five classes of high school volleyball with only Class 2A not represented in the teams the Rams played that made it to State. In 5A, West Des Moines Valley plays this afternoon vs. Pleasant Valley. Dallas Center-Grimes and Norwalk both made the 4A field with the Mustangs playing tonight vs. North Scott (Eldridge) and the Warriors facing off vs. Pella this evening. The two 3A teams the Rams played this season meet each other Tuesday afternoon when Red Oak meets Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), and the only one of the six the Rams defeated this season is Gladbrook-Reinbeck in Class 1A. G-R plays Tuesday night vs. Janesville.
One of the factors in the Rams going 9-16 outside of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference was the level of competition they faced.
