The leader of the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Boys Cross Country Team says the climate of this year’s squad is shaping the future of the program.
Head Coach Josh Chapman shares that the message he pushed on the boys was what he refers to as the “TNTs” or “Takes No Talent,” meaning all the little things that amount to making the overall culture great. He points out that areas of focus included nutrition, rest, hydration, and properly preparing for a meet the night prior.
Chapman, who just finished his sixth year as ADM’s Head Coach, details that each team he’s had is different in their own way, but this group of guys were extremely mature. He illustrates that there were nine seniors on the team, but a huge incoming freshmen class of 16 individuals, and that everyone gelled well to make sure all felt included.
“The upperclassmen had incredible leadership (and) really impacted the culture to where these young guys felt that they were apart of something bigger and that they felt valued on the team.”
Chapman notes that all the guys were hands on deck with setting up team camps, encouraging each other during the race on the course, and creating a positive environment. ADM qualified for the state meet in Fort Dodge for the sixth consecutive year and placed 10th this season.
