The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School Drama Department is hosting their fall play this weekend, based on a classic novel from the 1960s.

According to Drama Director Molly Longman, the high school is putting on “James and the Giant Peach” by Roald Dahl with three showings Friday-Sunday. She says the story follows the main character of James, who’s an orphan, looking for his home. Longman notes that after briefly residing in an orphanage, James is taken on this wild adventure interacting with magical creatures along the way.

She reveals that James will be played by sophomore Will Truitt and Ladahlord, the Magical Mentor, is portrayed by junior William Beebe. Longman elaborates on the deeper message that she’s hoping the audience will draw from.

“In the end, we talked a lot about what it means to find those places that are your home, so there’s a thematic element I think everybody can relate to. There’s some humor to the story, lots of fantasy, lots of fun characters (that) I think our kids in the community might really enjoy.”

Longman highlights that the play is taking place at the high school auditorium on Friday and Saturday at 7pm, and a Sunday matinee at 2pm. She encourages people to purchase their tickets beforehand online, with it being $6 for students and staff, and $10 for adults. To find the link to buy tickets, click here.
