With Veterans Day coming up, the Perry community will have a special dedication on Sunday, followed by their annual program on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the community will join for a dedication to unveil a new Iwo Jima mural. According to Master of Ceremonies Eddie Diaz, the mural, which is located at 1221 1st Avenue, will act as a tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, with a special recognition of the iconic image of the Marines who raised the flag on Iwo Jima during World War II. He notes that the occasion coincides with the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps and the program is open to the public for free on Sunday at 1pm.

Then on Tuesday, the 28th Annual Veterans Day Celebration is happening at the Perry Performing Arts Center, 1200 18th Street. Co-Organizer Tom Lipovac shares that the morning will begin with a free complimentary breakfast at HyVee from 6-10am for all veterans, active service members, National Guard, and Reserve personnel.

Following that, Lipovac adds that the regular program at the Performing Arts Center will start at 10am, featuring the keynote speaker U.S. Navy Lieutenant William Halling, as well as Perry students doing some readings, along with a presentation of colors and the Pledge of Allegiance. Lipovac details that everyone is invited to the program for free.
