The Dallas County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Office is helping residents prepare their plants for the winter season with a special program happening a few nights this week.

According to Marketing Manager Sarah Wood, the organization is hosting a “How to Overwinter and Care for Your Dahlias” program tonight and again on Wednesday. She says that participants will be learning how to properly treat these delicate plants.

“So if you’re not familiar, a dahlia needs to be brought in in the winter time here in our Iowa weather. Danielle Roberts is one of our Dallas County Master Gardeners and she grows just the most beautiful dahlias and she’s really knowledgeable.”

Wood outlines that the two sessions are happening tonight and on Wednesday at the Dallas County Extension Office Meeting Room, 28061 Fairground Road, in Adel from 6-8pm and is open to anyone for free. However, she encourages people to register before the classes fill up. The link to do so is available by clicking here.
