Veterans at P-C's Veterans Day program in 2024
With Veterans Day tomorrow, both school districts in Greene County are marking the occasion with their respective programs.
The Greene County High School Student Council is hosting their program at 1pm at the high school auditorium. Student Council member and Junior Class President London Harris says the singing of the National Anthem by the All-State students will kick-off the proceedings, followed by some remarks by the Student Council President, before the band plays a couple of songs. Harris states that next will be the feature speaker, retired law enforcement officer and military serviceman Bob Hurley, followed by the video from the Video Production Class.
Harris says Veterans Day is special for her as she talks about one of her family members that served.

“My great-grandpa Lindy was also in the Vietnam War and I remember for projects, picking him as my veteran, and getting to interview about that, and I thought it was super cool. And he passed away recently. So it’s good to be able to honor him differently this year.”
Student Council member and Junior Class Vice President Natalie Towers talks about her favorite part of planning this annual event.
“My favorite part was we wrote handwritten notes to veterans, inviting them. And that was really cool just to see how far away some of the veterans live, and if they want to come and celebrate with us.?
The veterans are then invited for light refreshments in Ram Restaurant.
Additionally, the Paton-Churdan School District will host their program at 1:30pm in the gym. Organizers say all of the grades will once again participate with either handing out letters to veterans, singing, or reciting poetry. Following their program will also be light refreshments.
