The AC/GC Chargers girls basketball team is returning from an extremely successful 2024-25 season, and bringing the majority of the team back, with some new faces as well.
Last season the Chargers finished 22-2 on the season, sitting at second in the West Central Activities Conference with a conference record of 14-1. The team had a powerful floor general in then senior Shay Lemke, a multi-year starter for AC/GC at the point guard position. Lemke was the lone senior last season, so the rest of the starters were composed of three juniors and sophomore, with three more sophomores being in the main rotation for the team.
Now senior Camdyn Richter says that they’ll miss the fast pace and tenacity that Lemke provided for the team, but that over the summer and through preseason workouts, the team has been working together, and becoming closer. With five freshmen joining the squad this year, Richter is looking forward to what they can do.
“They’re really going to help us a lot. Like I said, they’re all pretty good shooters and they already know what Charger basketball is and how our leaders are expecting them to come in and be great for our team. So I think they’ve already done a pretty good job at stepping up and doing that. So if we continue to do that throughout the season and progress at that, then we should be sitting pretty good.”
Richter explains that thanks to a few camps that the team attended earlier in the year, and player-led open gyms, they’ve been able to really see what the freshmen are made of. She shares that these freshmen are shooting the ball well, adapted to the Chargers’ signature fast paced, aggressive play style well, and are fast on their feet, which will be a big help in said play style. The season begins on November 24th for the Chargers, with a road game against the IKM-Manning Wolves.
