Adel-DeSoto-Minburn senior dancer Genevieve Book discusses the emotional aspect of the sport.

Book expresses that dancing goes back generations in her family and she’s developed many friendships from a young age, emphasizing that her high school teammates have become some of her closest friends. She details how dancing really evokes many internal feelings for her.

“It makes it a lot easier for me to open up because I kind of find it hard to talk about my feelings sometimes. So I think it’s just a different way of expressing yourself, and it’s such an emotional sport and it can be so deep. It’s different, but it’s a lot easier than having to vocalize how I’m feeling.”

When it’s all said and done, Book will miss the girls on the team because she thinks of them as a family. She says her favorite competition is the Dance Team Union (DTU) because it’s a really supportive environment. The Tigers are actually gearing up to compete at the DTU Regional contest on Saturday and Sunday in Waukee.
