Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn recently concluded his investigation regarding the September 6th officer-involved fatal shooting. Laehn says based on the final autopsy report of 18-year-old Camryn Stonehocker, the additional evidence that was requested by his office from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the circumstances that led to the shooting by a Boone Police Officer, was legally justified under state law.

The Iowa Attorney General’s Office also found the shooting to be legally justified in mid-October. According to the report, Stonehocker led Boone Police and Boone Sheriff’s Office on a high speed chase after not complying with a traffic stop for an inoperable vehicle taillight. The report further shows that when the chase ended near Grand Junction on T Avenue after 10:30pm, Stonehocker exited the vehicle and pointed a survival knife at two Boone Police Officers.

The report states that one officer was facing Stonehocker and another officer approached from behind, Stonehocker then turned his knife onto the approaching officer and Officer Marshall Moore was concerned for the other officer’s safety and fired his weapon to prevent Stonehocker from stabbing the other officer, which ultimately led to him passing away from those injuries.

Laehn adds that he provided his decision letter to the Boone Police Chief on September 6th, but the final autopsy report was not completed until November 6th and he didn’t receive it until this past Monday. He says the additional evidence request from the DCI happened late last week.
