The Adel City Council met in regular session on Monday.
Mayor Jim Peters shares that the council held the first reading for an ordinance to amend chapter 165 in relation to a zoning code for the purpose to amend the timeline for published notice of zoning matters and to add Practical Difficulties Variance Standard. He explains the council passed the first reading, followed by a motion to waive the second and third reading for final adoption.
Peters notes that the same process was done with an ordinance to vacate a Public Utility Easement for the Southbridge Plat 3 with accepting the first reading, then waiving the second and third reading for final adoption.
Peters says other items on the agenda that were approved included a resolution to authorize extending the lease of real property to Sprint Spectrum Realty Company LLC, authorize granting a Private Storm Sewer Easement to Impakt Real Estate LLC within a part of the 7th Street Right of Way, a resolution to accept the Northwater Preliminary Plat 3, a final pay application of $55,158.46 for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Lab and Administration Building, a resolution to accept Tax Increment Finance Indebtedness Certification for the Adel Urban Renewal Area for fiscal year 2027, and appointing Travis Pierce to the Parks and Recreation Board to fill a vacancy.
Peters indicates that the council agreed to engage with legal counsel to void a petition of a Conditional Use Permit to operate a concrete and landscaping business on a county parcel. He adds that the council also made a decision to allow residents to bring canned goods to city hall with the government shutdown and they would pass those along to the food pantry.
Peters concludes that the last item the council discussed was about replacing the lighting for the Christmas tree on the Courthouse square. He mentions that after discussion, the council decided that the issue was up to the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, rather than the city.
