One livestock organization in Greene County is gearing up for another fundraiser that they did last year.

The Greene County Cattlemen’s Association is hosting a steak sandwich, hamburger or hotdog fundraiser meal next Friday in the Home State Bank parking lot from 11am-1pm. Last year was the first time the local Cattlemen’s Association operated this kind of event, where they raised $3,339, with all of the money going toward the local food pantry in Jefferson, Greene County Action Resource Center. They also donated 100 additional meals to the Jefferson Community Fridge at the Gospel Open Bible Church.

Greene County Cattlemen President Justin Robbins says their newer refrigerator van came in handy last year because the event was held when it was raining. But, he points out it’s opportunities like that where their vehicle can do more grilling fundraisers than in the past.

“So, we’re able to keep product in the van and be able to work right out of it. The community support is amazing, it truly is amazing. The people love seeing it, they know that the Cattlemen are headed somewhere, I mean you get honked at, and waved at all the time, (and) thumbs up. I mean, it really is unreal, the community support that we’re able to do with it.”.

Robbins adds that the proceeds from next Friday’s fundraiser will go back to some of their programs and projects, such as scholarships for graduating high school seniors, Greene County Adopt-A-Family, the food pantry, among others. The deadline for large number of groups is by contacting Greene County Cattlemen’s Association by next Wednesday.
