In their October meeting, the West Central Valley School Board moved some funding in their general fund account.

Superintendent Rusty Shockley says that the financial move is something that is actually fairly common for schools and other organizations. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio more about the process.

“We have categorical dollars that we get each year and sometimes there’s unspent balances that tend to build up on some of those and you can only use those for specific purposes. So the state gave us the ability to transfer those funds into the general fund if we were to choose, and go through the process of having a public hearing and passing the resolution.”

Shockley mentions that the Board moved $300,000 of funds that would otherwise go largely untouched to the flexibility account, allowing the district to use those funds in multiple ways now. He adds that this process does not typically empty accounts that the funds are moved from, meaning that there is still plenty there for that account to be used for its intended purpose.
