The Greene County Sheriff’s Office investigated two rear-ending crashes this week that resulted in injuries.
The first incident happened on Monday at 8:34am at the intersection of Highway 30 and 16th Street in Grand Junction. According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, a 2014 Freightliner that was hauling grain and driven by Dennis Smalley of Jefferson, was traveling west on Highway 30 and didn’t see a stopped vehicle, due to the sun, that was waiting to turn left onto 16th Street, and rear-ended the 2020 Chevrolet Malibu.
The Sheriff’s Office notes that the debris from the collision struck two other vehicles, causing $1,500 of damage to each. The Sheriff’s Office states that the Malibu was totaled and the semi sustained $20,000 of damage. The 17-year-old driver of the Malibu and another individual were injured and taken to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance and Grand Junction Rescue.
The other incident happened Tuesday morning at 10:18am at the intersection of J Avenue and 140th Street. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says a 2025 Toyota Camry was heading north on D Avenue and slowed to turn onto 140th Street, when a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, that was driven by Ryan Minnehan of Churdan, rear-ended the Camry.
Williams states that while Minnehan was uninjured, the driver of the Camry, John Mosher of Florida, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. Williams adds that the Camry sustained $8,000 of damage and the Silverado had $2,500 in damage.
