Six Greene County FFA students recently attended the National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

New Greene County FFA Advisor Steve Kehoe said while he wasn’t able to attend this year’s National Convention, he already had some influence setting up the trip.

“I did that for the simple fact that it’s going to help the new teacher in the future that she doesn’t have to worry, or he doesn’t have to worry about trying to get the transportation, the hotels, and the lodging and the registration. So we went back to a bus.”

As part of the annual trek, Greene County FFA’ers will visit several businesses both on the way to the National Convention and heading back from it. Kehoe explained the importance of including those locations as part of the entire experience.

“Giving them opportunities of all these different types of careers that are out there, and to me if you just use that exposure, it at least makes them think of ‘What else could I do?’ or ‘What maybe I could bring home to Jefferson, Iowa and Greene County?’”

Kehoe advocated for all FFA members to attend at least one National Convention because it gives them an opportunity to see and learn more about all of the different individuals, businesses and organizations that support the four-day convention. The other schools that went with Greene County included Ogden, Pocahontas, Manson Northwest-Webster, Emmetsburg and West Bend Mallard.
