Adel-DeSoto-Minburn juniors Allie Eggleston and Addy Bjork describe the role that running has played in shaping themselves.
Eggleston shares that she began running cross country after a friend invited her out to try it, while Bjork says that she was not the best at playing ball sports, so running became a natural fit. Eggleston notes that the coaching staff assisted her with pushing through tougher workouts, and Bjork emphasizes that the coaches have helped craft a positive mindset. Eggleston reveals that running has strengthened her mentality.
“It definitely helps with persistence and just resilience from all throughout life and just racing, because it’s definitely mentally tough.”
Bjork agrees, but details that there is a physical advantage as well.
“From weight training to hard workouts to dieting things, but I also think that it helps (with) the closer friendships and the mental toughness.”
ADM girls qualified to the state meet in Fort Dodge as a team on October 31st, where they finished 11th overall, as Eggleston posted a time of 20 minutes and 13 seconds, and Bjork ran 20:35, which was a personal best for her.
