The Greene County Board of Supervisors met on Monday in regular session.

During reports, County Engineer Wade Weiss said the replacement parts to repair several bells on top of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower had arrived. There was a discussion about possibly coordinating when to rent a crane to install those items and possibly do it when the crews for the HVAC project at the Greene County Courthouse was going to happen since they need a crane for the rooftop portions.

The Board then heard a presentation for Human Resources (HR) services from Hopkins and Huebner, due to the current HR representative retiring at the end of the year. Following the presentation, the Board talked about different options, including paying an hourly rate or an annual rate. The Supervisors will consider approving the item at next week’s meeting.

The Board then reviewed a draft of an amendment to the zoning ordinance to include conditional use permits for construction of data centers or cryptocurrency mining centers. The main highlights from the discussion included distances from the property and/or the structures themselves, setting a decibel level, electrical and water usage, as well as emergency plan protocols and a decommission plan. The Board set a public hearing for the proposed amendments for December 1st, followed by the consideration of approval of the first required reading.

The Board also approved eight applicants for the disabled veteran tax credit for the 2025 property taxes and tabled the decision on a bid from Raccoon Valley Lawn Care for the courthouse grounds and snow removal maintenance. Board Chair John Muir mentioned that there was a possibility of hiring a part-time custodian that would handle those responsibilities. He said that because of the HVAC project, it would be good to have an employee on site for cleaning.

Additionally, the Board acted as the Drainage District Board of Trustees and approved a joint work order with the Guthrie County Drainage District Board of Trustees to replace a tile in DD 71-6 in Willow Township.
