The DCG girls’ basketball team scrimmaged the Southeast Polk Rams a couple of nights ago, and while the results don’t affect the regular season record, head coach Adam Jones thought it was a great opportunity to get the temperature of the team.
The Mustangs had only been practicing for a week when they got to see someone in different colors than the red and silver that DCG sports each day. Coming into his 11th season, Adam Jones has seen plenty of teams, and he is excited for this squad because of their athleticism. He thinks this team has “the potential to be the best defensive team” that he has coached.
That’s what he wanted to see on the court Monday night. How the girls handled matching up against an opponent that doesn’t know every play he calls or the style of defense he runs. Early on in the year, Jones has emphasized that the most important thing is “doing what we do well,” focusing less on the opponent and more on themselves as a team and growing as a collective unit.
With a scrimmage and a typical game-day routine under their belt, Adam Jones and the 2025-26 Mustangs girls basketball team open their season in Ballard on Friday night.
