The AC/GC Chargers wrestling team is getting the season started with practices this week.

Head Coach Lane Rumelhart says that he’s looking forward to meets beginning, as this year he has a majority of his guys healthy and ready to go now at the beginning of the season than he did a year ago. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’s also excited to have as much returning experience as he does this year.

“It seems like we’ve finally maybe turned a page and we have a few more juniors and seniors. (It’s) a little more junior-senior heavy team than what we’ve had in the past. Guys that bring a lot of experience to the table and that are pretty spread out in weight classes. So it’s going to be nice to have a full lineup of some experience there. You know, four of our six returning state qualifiers fill a lot of gaps, and (we) have some other guys that have been real close.”

Rumelhart mentions that there were several guys that were sidelined early on or for the whole season by injuries last year, including senior Charlie Christensen who was recovering from a torn ACL last year, and junior Ty Ganzer who had a broken arm. Rumelhart adds that he’s also excited to have several home meets this season, with five being held in Guthrie Center.
