A statewide performance of young singers is happening tomorrow and Greene County High School will be a part of it.
Freshmen Eli Hardaway and Eliza Elliott were selected for the OPUS Honor Choir that is sponsored by the Iowa Choral Directors Association. Greene County High School Vocal Director Dave Heupel says on Thursday there will be three choirs performing that includes students in grades 5th-9th, and each qualifier was chosen from a submitted recording as their audition.
Elliott shares her initial reaction to finding out she had qualified for OPUS and why she wanted to audition for the ensemble.
“It was sort of a shock, but I was really upbeat to hear about it because my dad is a musician and so it runs in the family. I really just wanted to do it because, I really like singing and I really like music, and I’ve been told that I have a good voice for that.”
This is Hardaway’s second OPUS appearance and he describes what he enjoyed his first initial time.
“Last year, I actually made friends that I still talk to, at this point in time, and that’s probably the highlight. Meeting new people, where they’re from, what they do on a daily basis, how they could differ from you, how they’re the same to you. It’s really a fun experience getting to know people.”
The concert will be held at Stephen’s Auditorium on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames at 7pm tomorrow night.
