With a recent new hire, the Greene County Secondary Roads Department remains at full strength across its locations in other communities.

Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says in addition to the main shop in Jefferson, there are other shops in the communities of Rippey, Paton, Churdan and Scranton. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio one of the reasons why these locations are important to have in the corners of the county.

“And we like being a part of the community. We’re helpful to those cities, including Grand Junction, (the) county does have involvement there also. We’re very happy to be there and I think it serves Greene County very well.”

Weiss explains another important reason is efficiency in snow removal.

“We’re one that (we) try to touch every road after a major (snow) event. Now it has happened, a few times where we weren’t able to do that, mostly when we are trying to assist either law enforcement or power companies. We’ve had times where we’ve just gone ahead of the power company and try and get power reinstated, so we haven’t been on the roads those days, opening everyone (of the county roads) up. But for the most part, we touch every road in a snow event and we’ll do that, and the day after.”

Weiss adds that each outlying building has equipment needed to do road maintenance and snow removal and there are three employees dedicated at each location.
