The Mustangs girls’ basketball team won its season opener at Ballard on Friday night.
DCG got out to a hot start early, holding the Bombers to just four points in the opening quarter of the season and proving their head coach, Adam Jones, correct when he said they’d be one of the best defensive teams he’s ever coached.
It was a hotly contested 2nd quarter, though as the teams battled to head into halftime with the Mustangs up 26-19. Coming out of the break, DCG took off offensively for a 19-point 3rd quarter. While Ballard made a push, it was too little, too late, as the Mustangs were too good on Friday night.
The 57-36 win in the season opener sets the tone for a successful year. The girls’ basketball squad will be in action next on Tuesday, up in North Polk.
