The Guthrie County Conservation Department has started work on the Raccoon River Valley Trail in conjunction with the Greene County Conservation Department.

Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that they started work as some of the grants they had secured were needing to be used. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about some more that they have in the works.

“As always, as you and I have talked numerous times over the last year, year and a half or so, we’re continuing to apply for grants for our Raccoon River Valley Trail project. So we’ve got three grants out there right now that we should be hearing back from in January.”

Halterman mentions that once things move into the new calendar year, they will begin applying for some other grants again, including State and Federal Recreational Trail grants and Resource Enhancement and Protection grants, and anything else that they can apply for.
