The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday night.
The Council heard from Guthrie Center Fire Department Chief Cory Campbell, who gave a presentation on the Length of Service Awards Program that was passed earlier this year. He mentioned that it is a vested 401k where the State will match investment funds that the fiscal agent commits to the program in an attempt to encourage younger individuals to volunteer for their local fire departments.
City Clerk Kris Arrasmith shared that she had received an email link from the Iowa League of Cities to help city clerks learn how to implement the program as a fiscal agent. The Council approved being a fiscal agent at $167 per year per member that met the requirements to be included in the program. Arrasmith also mentioned that the holiday lights had been installed downtown, and encouraged individuals to take a drive down State Street to check them out and try and name which movie each item was from.
