It’s Thanksgiving, and many people will be on the roads.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that traffic begins to pick up the day before Thanksgiving, and lasts all the way through the weekend. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio one of the best ways that people can keep safe while driving.
“People really need to adhere to the basic tenets of safety when it comes to traveling on the roadways and that is wearing your seatbelt, don’t drive impaired, don’t drive distracted, obviously put that phone down and then drive the speed limit.”
McCreedy mentions that with so many people on the road, the opportunities for crashes and other hazards to occur is increased. She adds that if people can stay aware, and keep a watch out for anything that may cause issues, it will help to keep the number of crashes and traffic incidents down.
