The day after Thanksgiving is typically known as Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year, and Jefferson Matters is encouraging everyone to think a little bit smaller.
Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich says today is also known as Plaid Friday for the smaller, local shops for people to stop by.
“And so what I think about is Black Friday, you end up with the big box stores. Okay, but let’s think about what it looks like when you literally are looking at plaid, it’s lots of little boxes, it’s small boxes, and that’s reminding us to shop small, at our smaller businesses. And so Plaid Friday, big shopping day, shop locally.”
Additionally, he encourages everyone to also support Small Business Saturday tomorrow because every locally-owned business is looking to the holiday season to be successful to help carry them into the first quarter of next year, when sales tend to slow down.
