With snow in the forecast this weekend, a Dallas County official highlights the importance of having a winter survival kit in vehicles.
According to Dallas County Emergency Management Coordinator AJ Seely, it’s as important to prepare for winter weather as it is for severe weather in the spring. While he stresses having an emergency preparedness kit in the home in case of a severe storm, he adds that people also need to think about preparing vehicles with winter emergency kits.
“When we look at winter, we want to make sure that our vehicles are similarly equipped. Having an ice scraper is a big one. And the other things that should go in your vehicle are things like nonperishable food, granola bars or things that aren’t going to freeze easily, extra blankets, gloves, that sort of thing.”
Seely says the goal of having an emergency kit is if something does happen, then it turns from an emergency into just a slight inconvenience because drivers are equipped with extra supplies.
Raccoon Valley Radio also informs the public of road conditions, closures and other winter weather related information as it impacts Dallas, Greene or Guthrie Counties.
