The leader of the West Central Valley Girls Wrestling Team speaks on key skills she wants the athletes to come away with.
Head Coach Amanda Carl began her wrestling career with the WCV Mat Pack Wrestling Club in 1991, and then started coaching for the organization in 2009. When the state of Iowa sanctioned wrestling for girls in 2022, Carl was asked to be the leader for the high school. She knows from experience that wrestling is a challenging sport, as she outlines valuable skills that can be gained.
“It really helps with getting your independence and just helps you strive in life. I learned a lot of things in wrestling growing up and I think that’s what has helped me as an individual succeed as an adult.”
When it comes to developing confidence, Carl emphasizes that the biggest key is to take it one day at a time. She welcomes any new girls interested in wrestling to come give it a try. The Wildcats have participated in two meets so far, as the next one on the schedule is Monday at Manson Northwest Webster High School, beginning at 5pm.
