With some possible snow that may come into Jefferson today, residents are reminded about the city’s snow ordinance.
City Administrator Scott Peterson says the ordinance goes into effect anytime there is 0.5 inches of accumulated snowfall. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio, this means that vehicles are prohibited from parking on the streets in the residential areas until the city crews have removed the snow from curb to curb. As for the downtown square, Peterson points out that parking is only prohibited from 2-6am until all of the snow has been removed from curb to curb.
Peterson gives this advice to motorists so they can abide by the ordinance.
“Put yourself in the seat of that snowplow driver, who’s going down the street, and then all of a sudden you see that there’s a car still parked there. That causes problems for the snowplow driver, it ultimately causes problems for that car owner too, because they get snow plowed right around the car. It’s difficult to even get the car out sometimes. We’d ask for the citizens’ compliance on this, it helps out everybody in the community, keeps the streets nice and clean, if during snow removal there’s no cars on the streets.”
Peterson adds that anyone who doesn’t move their vehicle off of the streets while the snow ordinance is in effect, may be subject to a citation from the police department.
