Senator Chuck Grassley comments on the dismissal of the federal charges against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney Letitia James.

Senator Grassley believes that Comey lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee that he chaired in 2020 with his alleged handling of the Russian interference in the 2016 election, of which sources say Comey pled not guilty to one count of false statements and one count of obstruction of a congressional proceeding.

“And we always swear-in the people that they’ll tell the truth and Comey said that day that he would tell the truth. And one of the questions I asked him he lied to me and he lied to the committee, and that’s one of the things he’s being charged for.”

A federal judge last week dismissed the charges against Comey and James, who, sources say, was charged with allegedly defrauding a financial institution by misrepresenting a property as a primary residence instead of an investment property. According to sources, the judge says the appointment of US Attorney Lindsey Halligan that brought the indictments was illegally appointed, due to the Senate never confirming President Donald Trump’s appointment.

Grassley talks about some different routes for the issue against Comey and James that would show that the initial dismissal is not the end of the road.

“One is appeal to the Circuit Court (of Appeals). So if the Circuit Court would overrule the Democratic-appointed judge that said that the case should be dismissed, then the case will go forward. If the Court of Appeals upholds it (the federal district court), the (US) Attorney General (Pam Bondi) in her own right can bring the same charges back.”

Sources say the US District Court Judge that dismissed the case was Judge Cameron McGowen Currie.
