Greene County swept Ogden on Monday night in a varsity girl/boy basketball non-conference doubleheader on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. It was quite a night for the Rams as they broke a 28 game girls’ basketball losing streak in handling the Bulldogs 59-23, then the boys’ game went to Greene County 67-63 after the Rams built a 62-40 fourth quarter lead.
Both girls teams were 0-1 after suffering season opening losses prior to Thanksgiving. Ogden led 4-0 before the Rams went on a 16-0 run to build a lead that just kept growing until it reached the 35 point margin which triggered the continuous clock in the fourth quarter. Senior Becca Anderson out scored the Bulldogs by herself with a 28 point effort. Junior Makenna Ebersole had a statistical double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and junior Sara Morlan added 11 points. The Rams made nine goals from three-point range, setting a new record in the years they’ve been Greene County.
The boys’ game was the first of the season for both squads. Coach Chris Nelson’s team was up 21-13 after one quarter and 39-26 at halftime. The Rams were ahead 62-40 with less than five minutes left to play when the Bulldogs turned up the pressure defense, scored easy baskets, and hit a trio of three-point goals to climb within three points at 66-63 with two seconds remaining. A free throw by the Rams sealed the victory. The balanced scoring the Rams had was a rarity with 13 points from junior Lincoln Schwander, 11 by senior Broc Stream, 10 from senior Carter Hinote, nine for Teagan Chisholm, eight each from seniors Nathan Towers and Rafe Michaelsen. Junior Zack Stalder scored six points and senior Isaac Karber added three.
