A Bayard man was recently sentenced to probation for several alleged cases.

According to court documents, 62-year-old Neal Schoon pled guilty to a lesser charge of an aggravated misdemeanor for his first offense for stalking. He had a two year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. He was also ordered to pay over $400 in fees and court costs. 

Court documents show that Schoon additionally pled guilty to three simple misdemeanors for violating a no contact order that were related to the stalking charge and a simple misdemeanor for failure to stop in assured clear distance for an unrelated incident. All jail sentences were suspended and he was placed on probation.

The stalking and violating a no contact order charges stemmed from multiple times that Schoon tried to communicate with the victim since January 30th. The no contact order was issued on February 4th and Schoon continued to try to make contact with the victim.

As per the plea agreement, the no contact order with the victim will remain in place for five years.
