An annual program with the Greene County Peace Officers Association is happening on Saturday.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says about a half dozen kids were selected for the Shop WIth A Cop program. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they are going to Walmart in Boone, where each kid will have $250 to spend on themselves and their family members. Williams notes that Walmart has a wide variety of items for the children to pick from and that Walmart has typically given back to them.
“Generally we’ve applied for grants in the past, Walmart’s always given us a grant in the past. This year we did not get the grant, but they also, generally when we arrive, they have bags with soaps, and toothbrushes, toothpaste that kind of stuff that they give to us for free.”
Williams adds that everyone will go back to the Law Enforcement Center Administrative building to wrap the gifts with the Jefferson Kiwanis Club and enjoy free pizza. He enjoys Shop With A Cop because law enforcement can help brighten someone’s holiday season.
