Community members may see a large number of flashing lights around Perry as an annual holiday tradition returns tomorrow.
The Perry Police Department will host its annual Shop With A Cop event, which sees officers accompany local children to purchase gifts for Christmas.
The department says 20 children will be paired up with members of the police, Perry Fire and Dallas County Emergency Medical Services Departments.
Sergeant Alex Lott adds that the children will meet at Perry Elementary tomorrow morning to make their Christmas lists for family members before heading out in emergency vehicles to shop at local businesses. He details his favorite part of the Shop With A Cop event each year.
“Just the interaction within the community, the interaction with the kids. The most fun part for me is actually my family and my son usually loves to help me out with it. And just giving back and understanding ‘Hey, we’re here to provide a great time and have some fun and also help out some people that want to have a great Christmas as well.’”
He adds that the officers and children will head back to the elementary school to wrap the gifts before enjoying lunch.
