An early morning fire Saturday in rural Guthrie Center resulted in the death of one individual.

According to Guthrie Center Fire Chief Cory Campbell, seven fire, emergency and law enforcement entities responded to the structure fire at 5:17 a.m. Saturday at 2094 Hickory Avenue in Guthrie Center.

Campbell says in the press release that firefighters found a shed fully engulfed in flames, which was threatening the residence. After safely evacuating the occupants of the home, firefighters extinguished the secondary structure fire and stopped it from spreading to the residence.

Campbell adds that while putting out the fire, responders located a deceased individual and a deceased canine within the structure.

The release states the scene was turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office.

Among the agencies that responded include Guthrie Center, Bayard and Coon Rapids Fire Departments, Panora EMS and Guthrie County Emergency Management.
