A Guthrie Center business made a donation to the Guthrie County Food Pantry run by New Opportunities of Guthrie County before Thanksgiving.
Sapphire Skin Company and Spa Owner Lexi Blakely says that through her business, she decided to donate $500 and several turkey vouchers. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why she wanted to do this.
“It’s just that time of year where people need a little extra help. It’s starting to get cold, bills are starting to get higher, the cost of everything right now is just so high. So it was just weighing heavy on my heart. On top of that, I always grew up as a kid who depended on food pantries, especially Thanksgiving time and Christmas time. I came from a big family. So I just empathize with those people and I just wanted to help in a way that I could.”
Blakely mentions that Home Town Foods partnered with Sapphire Skin Company on the turkey vouchers, which can be redeemed for an 11-15 pound turkey at their locations in Guthrie Center, Panora and Stuart. She adds that she does hope to continue to make this donation in the future, and that maybe it will grow as well.
