The Jefferson Fire Department responded to an equipment fire at the Landus facility Wednesday morning.
Fire Chief Jack Williams says at 7:58am, the fire department, along with the Jefferson Police Department and Greene County Ambulance were on scene of the fire. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio a belt at the top of one of the legs that carries grain had caught fire. Williams states that due to the height of the structure, they were using a rope system to carry the necessary tools to the top to remove the pieces to get to the belt, along with a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.
Williams adds that no one was injured in the incident and they were on scene for about 40 minutes.
