The Mustangs boys’ varsity basketball team fell short to an impressive Little Cyclone team that played excellent defense and leaned on star senior Will Thomas to take down DCG Monday night.
It was opposite first quarters for Ames and DCG to begin the game as Will Thomas dropped ten of the twelve total points the Little Cyclones scored, while the Mustangs had just one bucket from Brody Burke.
The second quarter is where DCG found its rhythm. Sophomore Chase Perrin drained two threes, and Burke cashed in with open looks underneath the basket as they closed the gap to 24-17 at the half.
A great third quarter from Ames put them firmly in the lead, and in the fourth quarter, Thomas put this one to bed. He got to the free-throw line four times in the half and hit nine in a row, cashing in on the free chances. The senior finished with 24 points to lead all scorers and propelled the Little Cyclones to a 44-32 victory Monday night.
With the loss, DCG drops to 1-2 on the season. The Mustangs travel to Newton to take on the Cardinals on Friday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
