A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to probation for drug possession and using someone else’s debit card.

According to court documents, 33-year-old Daniel Tasler pled guilty to a Class D Felony for credit card fraud and two serious misdemeanors for fourth degree theft and possession of marijuana. He had his prison and jail sentences suspended and was placed on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

The charges stem from an investigation that the Greene County Sheriff’s Office began on May 1st. Tasler used a debit card that didn’t belong to him and on April 26th, he made three transactions within two hours at the Casey’s General Store in Scranton, where $381 of gasoline was purchased. A search warrant was executed at Tasler’s home and not only was the container found that had the gasoline in it, suspected drug residue was also seized and tested positive for marijuana.

Court documents show that Tasler was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines and surcharges. According to the plea agreement, the other two felonies for credit card fraud were dismissed.
