The second gun season for deer is ongoing.
When it comes to hunting for deer, Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says that there are a few things to keep in mind about safety. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the reminder at the top of his list isn’t for equipment, but for your wardrobe.
“The most important thing when it comes to deer hunting is that we make sure we have that blaze orange on. A vest is a minimum amount required by law and the key word on this vest is it needs to be solid blaze orange. That is something that you need to make sure that is on you and visible.”
King mentions that as an added protective measure, hunters can wear a blaze orange hat as well, that way it will be something that can be seen when you’re creating a hill. He adds that these measures won’t give you away to the deer either, as they can’t see the orange because their sight is in grayscale.
