Holiday tunes will ring out in Perry as an annual concert returns on Sunday.

The Perry Fine Arts will host a Tuba Christmas concert at the First United Methodist Church, 1100 3rd Street, in Perry. Fine Arts Chairperson Cathy Clark says area low brass players are welcome to be a part of the show.

“This is a community program. All tuba and euphonium players are invited to come and perform with us. Wear your festive clothing to celebrate the holidays.”

She invites players of all ages to register at 12 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The registration cost is $10. Perry High School’s Blaine Schmidt will lead rehearsal at 12:30 p.m.

Perry Fine Arts have been participating in Tuba Christmas for the past five years. The annual tradition first started in 1974 as a way to honor tuba player William J. Bell, who was born on Christmas Day in 1902. Clark says the fine arts group previously honored Bell through the annual Tuba Day on the first Saturday in November. Participants would perform a concert before playing around Bell’s gravesite in Violet Hill Cemetery.

She invites the public to come enjoy holiday music through the Tuba Christmas concert at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
