The Paton-Churdan basketball teams were on the road last night in Rolling Valley Activities Conference play vs. Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton. Coach Tom Kennedy’s girls lost by a final of 77-32 and Coach Josh Cerveny’s boys’ team won 73-56.
The P-C girls trailed 37-16 at the half. Junior Alyva Smith scored 14 points for the Rockets with her freshman sister Edynn adding 10. The Spartans had 10 players score two or more points including three players in double figures. The Rockets are 0-5 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. EEHK is now 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the league.
The P-C boys won their second straight game and are 2-3 overall and 2-2 in Rolling Valley games while the Spartans fell to 0-4 in the conference and 0-5 overall. The Rockets led 32-27 at halftime and Coach Cerveny told Raccoon Valley Radio he felt the team didn’t play its best, but the players battled and managed to pull away. “Credit Exira EHK for a great game plan, and they shot the ball better than they have all season. We are still learning to win, and part of that is winning when we aren’t playing our best.”
Senior Cayden Stream scored 26 points to lead P-C, with senior Phoenix Hartman at 19, junior Trevon Keely 13, and 10 points from junior Blaise Schilling. Junior Bryce Stephenson had 17 rebounds, unofficially, with Kelley at 11 Hartman nine, and seven apiece for Schilling and Stream. Keely unofficially was credited with four steals while Stephenson and Stream each had three.
The P-C teams play Colo-Nesco on Thursday in Colo, then are home on Friday night to close out the December portion of the schedule vs. Glidden-Ralston in Churdan.
