The Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center School Boards meet in regular session for December separately.
Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that with the organizational meetings for newly elected Board members, it worked better for the meetings to be separate instead of joint to help cut down on the duration of the meetings. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the AC Board met Monday, and approved the abstract of votes before administering the oath of office for Blair Carney, Lindsay Dinkla, and Amanda Bireline, then elected Carney as Board President and Justin Crawford as Board Vice President.
Rasmussen explains that the Board also named a representative for the Adair County Conference Board, the Title IX/Equity Coordinator, rules for running Board meetings, and decided to continue with the current meeting schedule of the third Wednesday at 7pm alternating between the AC/GC junior high and high school buildings. He shares that in part of the administrative reports, he and the Board went over a report from DeNovo Construction Solutions, and shares some of the things covered in it.
“There’s a priority list, which includes secure entryways, updating a couple restrooms in the building, making them handicap accessible, and looking at our open concept at the elementary, what would it take to put doors on some of those classrooms, getting some ideas there.”
Rasmussen mentions that the Board then approved a School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) Modified Supplemental Amount for open enroll out students, as well as for English Language Learners beyond five years, the district developed special education service delivery plan and the AC/GC at-risk/dropout prevention plan. He adds that the GC Board met in session on Wednesday night, approving an SBRC modified allowable growth for open enrollment out, the at-risk/dropout prevention plan, and special education service delivery plan. The final items approved were hiring Interim High School Principal Cody Matthewson as the principal for next school year, removing the interim tag, along with the second reading of Board policy reviews for the 600 to 900 series, and the chronic absenteeism policy.
