The Dallas County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association continued its holiday giving by distributing food baskets to families around the county.

Volunteers from public safety agencies gathered at the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday to assemble the packages. Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante says 80 boxes were filled with food and distributed to families in need on Thursday. He adds that the number of boxes was down slightly this year because of rising food prices.

Infante details that they receive help from the schools and victim advocates across the county in gathering nominations. He explains the importance of the food basket program.
“This one is a little bit more emotional. We’re doing our part here in helping our neighbors. And it’s kind of sad, to be honest, especially with all of the food insecurity that’s (been) going on around here the past several months. But this year will be particularly helpful, we hope.”

Infante adds that donations for the food basket program are accepted all year by mailing them to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association, P.O. Box 32 Adel, IA 50003-0032.
