Christmas is next week, and New Year’s Day is the following week.
Iowa State Patrol (ISP) Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that with the holidays in the middle of the week, there’s a longer travel timeframe. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that even with that, the ISP is hoping to achieve something monumental this year.
“Obviously we talk every year, you hear about it on the radio, our goal is always under 300 and we haven’t achieved that for 100 years. And so right now the data is showing we are at 255 fatalities for the year 2025, which is 78 fewer than we were a year ago.”
McCreedy mentions that even though there’s only a few weeks left in the year, the ISP is excited for the possibility of having this be the first time there are less than 300 fatalities on the roads. She adds that people should also keep an eye on the weather to try and stay safe as well.
