
On Thursday, the Perry Bluejays and Jayettes basketball teams traveled to Saydel High School for Heart of Iowa conference battles against the Saydel Eagles. The Jayettes picked up their first conference win defeating Saydel 44-27 while the Bluejays began to come back but just fell short to the Eagles 71-60.
In the girls contest, the Jayettes took the lead in the first and never looked back, as threes from Karagyn Whelchel and Addison Perks helped put Perry ahead 8-0. Kalley Whelchel had a productive second quarter, scoring all her nine points in the second. Karagyn and Kate Schutter ended the night leading the charge for Perry with 10 points each in the 44-27 victory over Saydel for their first conference win.
In the boys contest, Gustavo Drahos and George Krohn found plenty of success against the Eagles and began to lead the comeback in the second half after Perry was held to only four points in the second quarter. Drahos, was electric beyond the arch, ending the night with 26 points with six three pointers made against Saydel. Krohn ended the night with 16 points but the Bluejays just fell short in the end 71-60.
Both Perry teams travel to Nevada on Monday night for battle against the Cubs for their last games before the Christmas Holiday. Coverage on KDLS is set to begin at 5:45pm.
